ConocoPhillips is seeking a Mechanical Engineer at its Ferndale, WA refinery.
This position is a staff position within the Maintenance Department’s Rotating Equipment and Reliability Group. The incumbent in this position supports the safe and reliable operation of rotating and process equipment within an oil refinery with specific responsibility to maintenance aspects of assigned process units. A significant portion of this position’s responsibilities are performed in the field of an operating refinery and involves active participation within a small team of engineers.
Responsibilities
This position’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
• Complies with all refinery site and corporate personal safety requirements and policies.
• Provides technical engineering support in researching equipment information for maintenance and/or repair of all types of rotating and process equipment.
• Coordinates and oversees completion of assigned refinery work orders requiring technical evaluation and engineering assistance (TEVAs) including Management of Change (MOC), updating reference documents and P&IDs, and conducting Project Safety Reviews (PSRs).
• Supports the efforts of the Rotating Equipment Reliability Engineers in providing technical assistance with in-shop and in-field repairs or rebuilds of rotating and process equipment to API and industry standards.
• Assists in day-to-day troubleshooting of unit operational issues relating to rotating and process equipment in the field.
• Specifies new equipment for purchase as needed in accordance with API and ConocoPhillips Refining Engineering Practices (REP) standards.
• Supports the efforts of the vibration technician and our portable vibration monitoring program using the DLI “Expert Analysis” software for rotating equipment.
• Assists with managing the preventative maintenance program’s task descriptions and frequencies for rotating and process equipment in accordance with industry and manufacturer standards.
• Assists the maintenance planner with warehouse stocking of rotating and process equipment spare parts inventory using SAP.
• Participates in corporate Rotating Equipment Network efforts for knowledge sharing, developing best practices, and reviewing REP standards.
• Participates in or leads refinery incident investigation teams for Root Cause Analysis and Latent Cause Analysis.
Qualifications
• B.S. degree in Engineering required; B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering preferred.
• Legally authorized to work in the United States on a regular full-time basis without restrictions.
• One (1) year of experience in maintenance or small project engineering.
• Three (3) years of direct experience with the operation/maintenance of rotating equipment in the chemical or petrochemical industry preferred.
• Familiarity with Root Cause Failure Analysis or Latent Cause Analysis techniques.
• Working knowledge of API and PIP Rotating Equipment Standards.
• Computer proficient (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
• Familiarity or experience in specifying the purchase or repair of equipment to API standards preferred.
• Familiarity or experience with Pipe Stress Analysis techniques and software preferred.
• Working knowledge of SAP a plus.

Lab Technicians perform a variety of analysis and tests of refinery products, process streams and environmental samples in a technically complex, highly automated refinery laboratory. Technicians work a rotating day/evening schedule including weekends. Technicians are responsible for maintaining and operating the equipment used in testing and analysis. Salary commensurate with experience.
Responsibilities
The Lab Technician may be responsible for:
•Performing various quality assurance and quality control tests on product/process samples according to written procedures.
•Entering data using lab information management system.
•Interpreting data and determining validity of results.
•Running QA/QC charts on testing performed.
•Occasionally required to work outdoors exposed to weather elements; some lifting is required.
•Know and observe safe work practices, including wearing personal protective equipment.
•Performing routine maintenance on laboratory equipment.
Basic/Required Qualifications
•Must be at least 18 years of age.
•Legally authorized to work in the United States on a regular full-time basis without restrictions.
•Valid in-state driver's license.
•Associate's degree (AA) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; knowledge of chemical laboratory practices and equipment; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
•Willingness to perform/comply with the following:
•To work at least an 8-hour shift which may include some weekends and holidays
•To work overtime
•To lift a minimum of 35 pounds
•To climb up to 250 feet in height
•To wear fire retardant clothing and personal protective equipment (such as respiratory protective equipment and ear and eye protection)
•To maintain your face daily so that a respirator/face mask can seal properly (some examples include being free of facial hair and/or clean shaven)
•To work outside in harsh weather conditions
•To read technical procedures and materials in English
Preferred Qualifications
•BS/BA degree in Chemistry or related field.
•Three years direct experience in a refinery and/or chemical industry.
•Ability to learn and perform all procedures used in a Quality Control Lab for product testing.
•Skillful in oral/written communications and in working with teams.
•Computer proficiency

ConocoPhillips has openings at the Ferndale Refinery for Assistant Operators to begin employment August 2008. Successful candidates will perform various duties required to keep refining units operating safely and environmentally sound while meeting production rates and quality specifications. Assistant Operators work rotating shifts on various units within the refinery that process crude oil into gasoline, diesel and other products.
